GLP is also busy in the area of youth and homework counselling, tuition and mentoring in the area of Delft and Kraaifontein in the Western Cape. During this time we uncovered a pertinent yet quite obvious fact. There are many young adults that have diligently attended school under very trying circumstances and have progressed to into high school.
These young adults are literally sick and tired of the “wine syndrome” example of their parents and older generation, where life revolves around the desperate collection of money for the next wine or “tik” binge week after week and lives go nowhere.
We have also discovered that a high percentage of those children that fell into addiction were mostly school dropouts who have lost “Hope” and have dropped out primarily because they were lost in the lower standards. This becomes a critical key to minimising the number of children that are lost in this manner. Also we wish to expand our homework clubs that mentor more high school students in the afternoons out of the same venues.
Donor funding that will flow from certain fund-raiser events will be used to fund the building of venues and the training of teachers for this purpose. GLP are already operates in two centres, Blikkiesdorp and Wallacedene and have another three centres earmarked for future pre-school development. These are: Ceres Oppiberg (Witzenberg Municipal District) Phesantekraal (Durbanville)
GLP conducts holiday programs for the youth with specific activities for all age groups.
